From Nanyuki

(68 km – approx. 1 1/2 hours – 4x4 vehicle recommended)

From the Nairobi side of Nanyuki drive through the main street and just before the Total Petrol Station turn left.  (From Timau turn right at the Total Petrol Station, just as you come into town - Clock tower on right hand side.)  Set your mileage to 0.  Follow the road from Toyota Esso Garage (on your right) out of town past the new British Army barracks on your left hand side.

After 8 km you will see some signs marked Maiyan 9.8 km, Storms Resort and Enaii to the right, take this turning.  Follow the road, do not turn off it anywhere.  You will pass through 2 little villages, the first called Jua Kali and the next called Naibor (with speed bumps).  At the end of the tar continue straight onto the dirt road (ignoring a sign to the right to Dol Dol (D464).

You will go through Mogwooni Ranch, all electric fenced and then Ol Jogi Ranch.

After 40 km you will cross a bridge over the Ewaso Nyiro river, shortly afterwards ignore the turning to the right and take the left fork to Rumuruti. After 100 hundred metres or so ignore turning on left to Mpala Research Station.

After 49 km you will come to a fork in the road, keep left.

After 50 km you will see a right hand turning, ignore this.

After 60 km roughly you will see a big new sign on the right of the road, just go straight on, don’t turn right.

After 66 km you will reach a concrete bridge over a dry river (most of the year). This is the only bridge after the Mpala bridge so you cannot go wrong. Don’t cross the bridge, immediately before the bridge you should turn right onto a bush track, then keep bearing right whenever you reach a fork and the road will take you up a hill. Over the brow of the hill you will see the camp.

From Rumuruti/Naivasha/Nakuru

(50 km from Rumuruti – approx. 1 hour 20 mins – 4x4 vehicle recommended)

From Nyahururu (Thompson’s Falls) you head towards the town of Rumuruti. Before you reach the main town you will reach a roundabout, turn left at the roundabout towards a town called Maralel. After 9km heading towards Maralel on a tarmac road, you will pass over a small bridge there will then be a turning on the right heading to Mondi Ni Mari. This is clearly signposted. The Tarmac stops after about 500m.

About approx 36 km the dirt road will take you passed Ol Maisor Ranch, clearly marked on the left. Keep following the dirt road until you see a village called Kinamba on the right-hand side. Keep going straight.

Approx 6 km from Kinamba you will see a Sosian sign on a rock in the middle of the road pass this and keep going past a honey barrel sign for Suyian on the left-hand side. Follow the main road downhill towards the river ignoring a left hand turning on the left.

Go over a bridge and up a rough piece of road on the other side and keep going straight, past a huge rock on your left. After 8 km you will go over another bridge over a dry riverbed. Turn left just after the bridge onto a bush track then keep bearing right whenever you reach a fork, and the road will take you up a hill. Over the brow of the hill, you will see the camp.

Please call the office on 0727 804 922 when you are leaving Nanyuki/Rumuruti so we know when to expect you.  Phone signal will start to cut out as you leave the tarmac.
